Deemed the "Batman vs. The Joker: Showdown at Charlotte," the event was part of a dynamic new partnership between DC Comics/Warner Brothers, Action Performance Companies, Ford Quality Care, Texaco, TBS Superstation, Robert Yates Racing, and Charlotte Motor Speedway. Irwin Jr started the race in 10th position, but was caught up in an accident on laps 202, and finished 20th. Mark Martin dominated the race, leading 215 laps, including the final 66 laps to earn the vistory in his Valvoline Ford for Jack Roush Racing.
