Earnhardt started the race in 19th position, but was involved in a crash with Darrell Waltrip and John Andretti on lap 9, and retired from the race. Earnhardt finished 19th. Mark Martin led 31 laps, including the final lap of the race to earn the victory in his Eagle One Ford for Roush Racing.
