Dale Earnhardt Jr picked this paint scheme to honor Buddy Baker's "Gray Ghost" in the Bojangles Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on Sunday September 4, 2016. However, due to Jr's ongoing concussion treatment, Jeff Gordon drove this car. Gordon started the race in 15th position, and finished 14th. Martin Truex Jr led the final 16 laps of the race to earn the victory in his Auto Owners Insurance ride.
